VETuner now has a proper home at vetuner.co.uk.
If you’ve been following along while I poked at parsers, dashboards, serial comms and all the other fun bits, this is the bit where it turns from “odd side project” into “real thing with an actual domain”. It may even result in “actual users” and “actual users who give me money”!
This was driven by me getting fed up with Android development for MSDroid. MSDroid is great, it’s just Google changing the requirements underneath it, taking phones from general purpose computing devices into ad impression generators. Ironically, it’s Google that makes the only browser with the Serial/USB APIs I need to talk to the ECUs, so I’m not completely done with them.
Net result is that I now have a pile of software that comfortably runs on my phone, tablet and laptop, and plugs into a USB-C cable coming out from under the dash of Stupid Car. I can also sensibly share dash layouts between them thanks to SVG. Trev graciously let me use the designs he did for MSDroid, so the sexy gauges are all his own work.
Tuner Studio
Tuner Studio is great. I’m a paid up owner of the Ultra edition, and the same for MegaLogViewer. Without those tools there is no way Megasquirt and Speeduino would have got as far as they have.
However, it is a beast (and MSDroid has the same weakness). It gives you the full-fat firehose of configuration. Nothing is hidden, everything can be tweaked, and that can be a problem for people just getting into running their own ECU.
Everything we are good at, we were bad at when we started. Everyone has to begin somewhere. I’ve added a Start Doctor to try and help. It watches the cranking and tries to find where the problems are. I’m also working on an ‘Idle Advance Doctor’ because my car could do with it (no IACV). VETuner defaults to Focus Mode which (as the name suggests) focuses on the basics of cranking, fuel, spark and idle to get the car running.
VETuner also offers the full fat firehose experience with a subscription. Only £10! That’s where I’ll be putting all the goodies such as the Idle Advance Doctor when I dream them up.
What I need now is users. I have limited testing capacity (it works on my car!) so free subscriptions are on offer to anyone who helps me fix a bug.
Onwards, with less cranking and more brumming.
